Hadiths from Sahih Bukhari

Sahih Bukhari is one of the most authentic collections of Hadith, compiled by Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari. It is considered the most authentic book after the Holy Quran.

1. The Foundation: Intentions

On the authority of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Actions are judged by intentions, so each man will have what he intended. Thus, he whose migration was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger; but he whose migration was for some worldly thing he might gain, or for a wife he might marry, his migration is to that for which he migrated."

Sahih Bukhari, Book 1, Hadith 1

Lessons from this Hadith:

  • Sincerity is key: Our intentions determine the acceptance and reward of our actions
  • Purify your motives: Every action should be for Allah's pleasure
  • Self-examination: Regularly check your intentions before any deed

2. The Best Deed

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet ﷺ was asked, "What is the best deed?" He replied, "To believe in Allah and His Messenger." The questioner then asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, "To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's Cause." The questioner asked again, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, "To perform Hajj (pilgrimage) which is accepted by Allah and is performed with the intention of seeking Allah's pleasure only."

Sahih Bukhari, Book 2, Hadith 25

Lessons from this Hadith:

  • Faith first: Iman in Allah and His Messenger is the foundation
  • Striving for Allah: Jihad (struggle) in all its forms is highly rewarded
  • Sincere worship: Hajj performed with sincerity is among the best deeds

3. Prayer on Time

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I asked the Prophet ﷺ "Which deed is most loved by Allah?" He said, "Prayer at its proper time." I asked, "Then what?" He said, "Kindness to parents." I asked, "Then what?" He said, "Jihad (striving) in the path of Allah."

Sahih Bukhari, Book 8, Hadith 505

Lessons from this Hadith:

  • Timeliness matters: Pray on time, don't delay
  • Honor your parents: Being good to parents is highly emphasized
  • Consistency: Regular, timely worship is beloved to Allah
