Daily Sunnats of the Prophet ﷺ
Following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ brings us closer to Allah and earns immense rewards. Here are essential daily Sunnats to incorporate into your routine.
🌅 Upon Waking Up
1. Wipe Your Face
Wipe the traces of sleep from your face.
2. Recite the Dua
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
"All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us, and unto Him is the resurrection."
Sahih Bukhari
3. Use Miswak
Clean your teeth with Miswak (tooth-stick) or a brush.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "If I had not found it hard for my followers, I would have ordered them to use the Miswak with every prayer."

🚶 Entering & Exiting
Entering the Home
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
"In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we place our trust."
- Enter with the right foot
- Give Salam to family members
Exiting the Home
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ
"In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, there is no might nor power except with Allah."
Sunan Abu Dawud
- Exit with the left foot
🍽️ Eating & Drinking
Before Eating
- Say "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah)
- Eat with your right hand
- Eat from what is nearest to you
The Prophet ﷺ said: "O young boy, say Bismillah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is nearest to you."

After Eating
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
"All praise is due to Allah who has fed us and given us drink, and made us Muslims."
Sunan Abu Dawud
When Drinking
- Drink with your right hand
- Drink in three breaths (pause to breathe)
- Don't blow into the drink
🛏️ Before Sleeping
1. Perform Wudu
Sleep in a state of purity.
2. Sleep on Your Right Side
The Prophet ﷺ would lie on his right side and place his right hand under his right cheek.

3. Recite Before Sleep
- Ayat al-Kursi (Quran 2:255)
- Last two verses of Surah Baqarah (Quran 2:285-286)
- Surah Al-Mulk (Quran 67)
- Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas (3 times each)
4. Sleeping Dua
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
"In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live."
Sahih Bukhari
🕌 Going to the Masjid
Wear Clean Clothes
Look presentable when going to the house of Allah.
Walk with Calmness
Don't rush to the masjid. Walk with dignity.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "When you hear the Iqama, proceed to prayer with calmness and solemnity; do not rush."
Sahih Bukhari
Dua for Entering Masjid
اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
"O Allah, open the doors of Your mercy for me."
Sahih Muslim
- Enter with the right foot
Dua for Exiting Masjid
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
"O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty."
Sahih Muslim
- Exit with the left foot
💪 Other Daily Sunnats
1. Tahajjud (Night Prayer)
Pray at least 2 Rakats before Fajr.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer."
Sahih Muslim
2. Duha Prayer
Pray between sunrise and Dhuhr (2, 4, 8, or 12 Rakats).
3. Smile
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Your smiling in the face of your brother is an act of charity."
Sunan al-Tirmidhi
4. Give Salam
Spread peace by greeting others.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I tell you of something that, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread Salam amongst yourselves."
Sahih Muslim
5. Make Dhikr
Remember Allah throughout the day:
- SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)
- Alhamdulillah (All praise is for Allah)
- Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
- La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
📋 Daily Sunnah Checklist
Create a daily tracker to build these habits:
- Woke up and said the morning dua
- Used Miswak/brushed teeth
- Prayed Fajr on time
- Recited morning Adhkar
- Said Bismillah before eating
- Ate with right hand
- Gave Salam to family/friends
- Smiled at others
- Prayed Duha (optional)
- Made abundant Dhikr
- Recited Quran
- Prayed all 5 prayers on time
- Recited evening Adhkar
- Recited before-sleep Surahs
- Slept on right side
Don't try to implement everything at once. Pick 2-3 Sunnats and make them consistent, then gradually add more!
Every Sunnah you revive earns you immense reward. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever revives a Sunnah from my Sunnah and the people practice it, he will have the same reward of those who practice it without their rewards being diminished." (Sunan Ibn Majah)
